ANTELOPE FOR AFRICA SAFARIS
African Hunting and Photographic Safaris
Spotted Hyena is also known as Laughing Hyena. They are typically heard in the African night making a "whooo-hoop" sound.
They are mainly nocturnal but have been seen in early mornings and late afternoons. They form groups in which the females are dominant.
Spotted Hyena are primarily scavengers but will eat anything from carrion to fresh meat, skin, and bones. They will hunt in groups, chasing their prey until it is exhausted.
Enemies are lion and crocodile.
Note: US Fish and Wildlife no longer allows hyena trophies imported to the USA. Hyena may still be hunted in South Africa provided a permit is issued but it may not be entered into a record book because it cannot be exported.
