Nyala males are dark blue-grey with white vertical stripes and white chevron mark between the eyes, and yellow socks or stockings on the legs. The females are reddish-brown to chestnut and do not have the white chevron between the eyes.
Nyala are water dependent and prefer thick, bushy habitat along rivers in dry woodland areas. Their main food source is leaves, but also newly sprouting grasses, fruit, flowers, seed pods.
